My bonny wee Mother
I got your kind letter this morning & the letter for the children. I am so sorry that this decaying family has worried you. To day I am glad to say that they are all much better. Alice's temp. is down to 100, Billy is normal & the other two are quite well. Alice is no longer the angel child & is getting peevish, which is a good sign. Susie & I are much worried by internal gripes & throats, which is our form of the mischief, but we are mending.
We will let nothing stand in the way of coming to Broughton this summer. I can't tell you how the children are looking forward to it.

They talk of nothing else. I want them to play in the same places as we played as children.
I had a kind letter from Uncle John this morning thanking us for coming to the Soirée.
The weather is much milder. The frosts are gone & we are having a damp fog.
Don't worry about us, wee body. We are all on the mend. I wish I could be reassured about your own health.
Much love to all
[illegible]
John
