The weather has broken, but I do hope it may be fine on Saturday.

My poor godson [ST: horse called John Buchan owned by Lord Astor] lost the Derby yesterday by a yard. He would have won if his jockey had not tried to pass the winner on the wrong side. I am so sorry for Waldorf Astor to have come so near & yet lost

Fred [ST: FS] Oliver came in to see us last night. He is not looking well & has a return of his old threatening of tuberculosis.
