My dear John. On my return to London on Friday I found your book. I loved every word you wrote about Jack [ST: Stuart Wortley]; and I would not have a word altered or omitted. It is just an affectionate appreciation of his life's work, and his honest-straightforward "sailor" nature. Only some one who loved him could have written it and only someone who appreciated his real hard work for his country could have set it out so attractively. His strenuous

work, and fine qualities have lost nothing in your hands, and have even gained by being set forth by your incomparable pen. As his mother I can only say I feel honoured by your wish to write it and its fulfilment.
You seemed to forget nothing. Thank you a thousand times.
Yours always aff'tely
Aunt Nelly
