My dearest wee Mother

We were very glad to get the wire yesterday & Nan's kind letter this morning. It is so good of you taking so much trouble when you have so much to do. I am sure

the wee boys will be very happy at Broughton. I wish we had joined them, for it is an unquiet time just now. The men begin the removal to-day. It is pouring rain - much needed rain, but it makes the spectacle of us flitting rather

gloomy.

We dined with Gerard Sellar & went to the "Chinese Puzzle" for which I was given a box by my colleague in the dramatisation of "Greenmantle". We went behind the scenes afterwards to see him. He will probably play "Sandy" in my play. It is a queer world that of the stage.

To morrow evening we go down to States for the week-end, & Lord Grey is taking pity on us & giving is dinner to night. I am longing to be in Scotland to see you all.
