My dear John I came back from New York to find your book waiting for me as a pleasant surprise. This type of sketch always seems to me one of the most difficult things in the world to do, and you have overcome the difficulties with great skill. I particularly liked the essay on Raymond Asquith -

but what a pity if, as you say, his letters can never be published, for the extracts are tantalising. I had a very pleasant trip to Canada and the States and enjoyed my home visit to New Brunswick best of all. However, I'm quite glad to be back.
