but I am so glad to hear he is on the mend. I have had a most charming letter from Ld. Ernest, so understanding, & saying he almost suggested himself that Arthur & I shd. undertake the memoir, but that he felt it wasn't his business. So now all is well, & it is owing to you that we have been

saved from a record of Minto wh could not have portrayed his true personality. Whether I am in any way competent to cope with the work remains to be proved, but the promise of your help gives me courage, & I must thank you from my heart for the kind interest you took in the work - your

advice was unvaluable. I mean to read up helpful books, & before attempting to write anything I have heaps of journals & papers to go through. It will be a wonderful interest, & if I fail I shall any how have collected the material for an abler biographer to use so I do not mean to lose heart at the formidable difficulties which lay before me.
