Memorandum from Gilbert Rae, Ironmonger & Seedsman
Dear Mr Buchan,
I ask your kind acceptance of enclosed book, and will be glad to have your valuable help, so kindly promised. I trust you will not mind the reference I make to yourself, and the dedication of the effort to Sir Donald MacLean, and you. Might I have a copy of your review when finished?
I trust you are well. John, our boy, is looking forward to a day on Hopecarton burn next year. He wanted away to the said burn the next day after your visit to us,

so stimulating was your account of former success. He has a great love for the hills, and it is a good airt for a boy of his years.
With sincere thanks, and with kind regards
Your faithfully
Gilbert Rae.
