Basil and I were inseparable fixtures and his loss has quite spoiled my life. I like what you have written about Raymond so much too. He & I were in the squad together in the Grenadines, but we never met in France being in different battalions.

I can't help wishing Alex Thynne had been amongst these you write of - he belonged to that group - but perhaps you never met him or were not intimate.

I am going to Ireland tonight and am so looking forward to sharing it to my mother. I may add Basil & I were in the same battalion and at the time he was in my company during that dreadful winter of 17 when we were in the

trenches at Saelle-Saelle Selle. He was always wonderful & always funny. Again with so many thanks
