Dear Buchan,

It was kind and thoughtful of you to send me an early copy of "The South Africans in France". Many thanks. The record of my old Brigade is accurate and, may I be permitted to say so, most graphically written.

The South Africans are indeed fortunate in having so able a military historian to relate the story of their work.

I feel sure the book will receive a warm welcome in South Africa.

Thank you for giving instructions that a copy was to be send to D. H. from myself. I have written to Nelson & Sons asking them to forward one to Milner. We leave here on the 29th inst, arrive London on the 5th prox, sail for the Cape during March. I shall call at yr office to say "au revoir" before we leave England.
