I wish I knew how to thank you for the delightfulest of presents, or that I could tell you how proud I am of the book. I have read only a little way, but far enough to know how deep a pleasure it is going to be to me. I am so glad

you have used Harvey's perfect piece of lament in this as well as in the other memorial book. Please tell Mrs. Buchan, with my love, that you were all what my old nurse calls "An Awfu' Miss" at Tweedsmuir - We made up for it as best we could by going as often as possible to see your mother & sister. We are here for a few days, then go back to Edinburgh & to work. I wish you ("you" in the dual number) could see the birch trees

on the drive, pure gold, against the dull gold of a field of stooks, & the blue line of Cheviots beyond, for I know how you would love it.
