Mansbridge writes today to fix 5:30 p.m. on Friday Dec 10 for the meeting - is that a convenient day for you & should we find that 7:30 train to Oxford still running? It is delightful of you to make such a plan, but surely one part of it is an unnecessary exertion on your part - why should you toil up to hear me talk once more about

English Literature or Adult Education? What I have to say is so true that it cannot possibly be new, especially to you who have already suffered it twice! Why not wait for us at Elsfield?
May I confide to you, - I couldn't say it to John as I wished - how perfectly I think he has done the Grenfell book? He has a gift unique in our time for that kind of writing - the generosity & the restraint make a kind of spiritual rhythm which is very moving & at the same time very strengthening & consoling.
