I never thought a harmless amateur could have xcited so much united venom - it made me rub my eyes - Katherine Furse (Dame Furse Symonds's daughter) lunched with me & reminded me of a few of her mother & fathers tales of the Stevenson's habits & was furious with Sir S. Colvin for his lack of proportion but I told her

I scratched it out & was sorry I forgot to do so in final proof. I've had such wonderful private letters far too nice from poor poor dying people from every part of the globe India, & Africa, Hungary, Spain but I've no illusions & dont pretend to write books!
