Glasgow. December 21, 1920. My Dear Colonel Buchan, Excuse my delay in the acknowledgment of your kind letter and gift. The book arrived on the day I left Dudley and I have since read it with very great pleasure. It has been not only amusing but inspiring reading, and although "the Twins" swam in quite other pools of life than I have known I could not but feel the common touch of nature as I read of their eager search after the right kind of books and education. Thank you very much for the opportunity of coming into contact with two such spirits. You could not help making a fascinating book about them. You will be interested to know that I spent a pleasant hour or two with your people at Peebles on my way north last Friday afternoon; and I have had a nice quiet time here in

Glasgow among my own folk. It was a great honour to have you at Dudley. I am sure I felt a bit like Zacchaeus - the man who was up a tree. But I was sorry about that audience. Perhaps at some other time if you give me opportunity I shall do you more honour. I trust your family are now quite well; and I wish them and Mrs. Buchan and you the best things in the coming year.
