My dear John,
I would have been delighted to get your brother in to the House on Monday but it is closed to all strangers at present - oweing to Sinn Fein threats - and the galleries are empty; so I cant do the service you ask.
Why have I not

seen you for so long? When I saw your signature I realized what the great vacancy in my life was! We must forgather when these troubles are quieted. In the meantime I am a slave, & by the end of the year at the Exchequer I shan't have a friend; but it is fun, though I go down the drain at the last.
