Dear John Buchan.

I have just finished your book about Francis
& Rivy & must send you a line to thank you
for it. In the midst of all your other work
it must have been troublesome to collect a
summary of their lives from all the scattered
material, but I do feel that your work has
been worth while. To those who knew nothing of
them you have shown that in these days it is
possible for young men, not our class & not well
educated to try & overcome their shortcomings by
hard work, to be assisted in their endeavors
by great ambitions, not so much for personal
triumph as for the glorification of their
family or regiment and in a great measure
