Cowgate, Mauchline, Ayrshire

7 Sept. 1926

Lt. Col. John Buchan,

Sir,

As a reader of your "History of the R. Scots Fusiliers" would you permit me to point out what, I think, is an error with reference to the history of the 1st Batt.

The paragraph at foot of p.337 "The three battalions of our regiment etc" states that the 6th/7th Batt. furnished the raiding party on 22nd March. It was, however, the 1st Batt, stationed at Wanquetin which was concerned in this raid. Capt. Smith, 1st R.S.F. was buried in Wanquetin Cemetery. The party under 2/Lt. D. Scott also belonged to B. Coy. 1st. R.S.F.

I was a private in this Company

and I find I noted these facts in my diary at the time.

It would be of interest to have your observations on this point.

I am, Sir,

Yours respectfully,

Alexander Wason

(late Lt. 1st, R.S.F.)
