I have to read so much that reading has come to mean to me, almost more pain than pleasure, and when once in a very great while, I do find a really delightful book, a book the reading of which brings genuine enjoyment, I feel very appreciative indeed.

So, may I thank you for the Dancing Floor?

my first reading of it brought complete interest and absorbtion, and my second, after my mind was at rest about the outcome, held so much of satisfaction in its sweet and wholesome philosophy, and the poetry of its fine prose - if one may put it so.

We need such philosophy and kindness toward youth, especially feminine youth, just at present. The descriptions of England in winter are beautiful

and brought a little stab of some racial homesickness. The picture of the Dancing Floor itself interested me particularily. I go in the summers to a lovely, remote little dancing floor in New Hampshire - an "inter vale" they call it there - a spot beloved of the Indians and the first venturesome settlers, and I know the spell and charm of these still, strange places.
