My dear John - I kept the Homilies till I was to be away for some days and now have read them with great delight. I am more than ever astounded by your range and accuracy of judgment - apart altogether from the style which alone would make them a pleasure to read. I liked all, but best I think the

Catullus and the last one on Oxford.

Here I have had a placid Christmas with the family and the two Viscounts - Haldane & Asquith. Do come to luncheon someday soon - any day in fact after the 9th.
