Dear Mr Buchan
I saw Sir Neill Malcolm on the 15th & my Father saw him last Thursday & thoroughly approves of my accepting his offer to take me into the Borneo Company. I know that this is all entirely due to you & I cannot put my gratitude into words - the trouble you have taken over me has been enormous & has resulted in getting me just the very type of job that I wanted. Thank you very much indeed [underlined three times].

I have only been here a week - it is the most wonderfully beautiful valley imaginable, quite isolated - no road of any sort, & hemmed in by mountains. Mr Irving is here but the party breaks up tomorrow, so I have only had time to do two really good expeditions. Unfortunately I find that above 11,000 feet I get slight mountain sickness - but I suppose that would soon wear off if one was here sometime. I may stay on a few days longer & do a climb or two with a guide.
The flowers must be seen to be believed; altogether it is a most idyllic spot, the weather perfect, the peasants altogether

untainted by civilization & perfectly charming.
I shall start work in London with the Borneo Company about the third week in September.
I hope you are enjoying your islands, I imagine you are there by now. It only needs the sea to make this place a good imitation of Heaven!
I wish I could show you how grateful I am to you for all you have done for me.
Yours ever, Godfrey Nicholson
P.S. The offices of the Borneo Company do not open on Saturdays, so I can go on hunting - crowning mercy. P.T.O.

P.S. I have just been reading "The Dancing Floor". It is most exciting & I like it very much but not so much as "John Macnab".
Please forgive this awful scrawl but I am writing out of doors tormented by flies & gnats; very tired after a 14-1/2 hour climb yesterday - all rock.
