Dear Mr Buchan

A few days ago I was talking to a very great friend of ours, who has been out in the back block visiting my husband and I, when I happened to mention "Mr Standfast" as being the finest spy story I have ever read and recommended him to get it. When I told him the author he said he knew you well. Our visitor's name was Mr Gavin Young, late of John Knox Free Church, Glasgow. Uncle Gavin said that he thought you would appreciate a note from me telling you how much we enjoyed your book.

I was making jam at the time I was reading "Mr Standfast" and I let it burn badly - because the book was so full of "thrills" and excitement - in fact it made my singlet run up and down my back like a rollerblind.

We have read all your books except "Huntingtower" which we will have read by the time this reaches you. We live 375 miles just west from Sydney and belong

to the Sydney Book Club - from which we get eight books at a time. It is a lending library in connection with the Publishers Angus & Robertson.

Uncle Gavin will be Scotland during the New Year so you no doubt will see him again.

Hoping you will write another exciting story like "Mr. Standfast"
