9 Upper Coltbridge Terrace Murrayfield November 13.22.
Dear John Buchan,
This note must be written even though you probably get hundreds such & are weary of them. However, it needn't be answered & that will be perhaps its sole merit.
I want to say that I just loved Huntingtower & that I have lost my heart forever to "wee Jaikie". All the little Joes & Stalkies & Jakins & Lews retire into the shade & hide diminished heads. William de Morgan has done one or two good boys, but "wee Jaikie" & his company are at the top of their class till further notice.
I expect you are glad not to be scouring Peeblesshire with your mouth full of promises, obliged to be "monstrous civil" to all & sundry. Personally I feel that another helping of the Gorbals die hards will be better than many speeches at Westminster.
My boys club were concluding their evening last Friday with a general mix up & wrestle on the floor & a small hero from Gorgie by way of delimiting the rules for his pal said as they fell to work, "here, there's nae bitin' at this game".
Hope you & all your house flourish exceedingly
Yours v. gratefully
John H. Watt
