a whimsical touch which I find a very agreeable salt; many modern novels seem to me mostly, garbage. I am old, Victorian and was brought up on Dickens, and Scott. Therefore I can appreciate Dickson McCunn's descent from [Niol Jarvie?] the Bailie -
