Mv dear Buchan,

On the conclusion of your interesting novel I wish to tell you what great pleasure it has given me to publish it in our columns. It has a genuine touch of historical imagination about it and I think the way you work in the incidents of 1745 strikes one as being wonderfully true to the reality of things. As a true son of Fleet Street, I always worship at the shrine of Johnson, and I was glad to have explained to me the mystery of those years of which we have no record, and I am happy to know that he escaped the temptation to join the Caterans.

I hope you will have all success with the publication of the story in book form.

Yours very truly,

Burnham
