5. 2. 23. IIa PORTLAND PLACE, LONDON, W. I.

Dear John

re Geese

B. says you have a kind which looks handsome, does not hiss
& eats coarse weeds like a swan. Where can I order a pair in
time for the nesting season?

B. is much better & gone to Sidmouth till the end of the
month. K. has had quinzy & Jock rheumatics, & am off to Falmouth
for a fortnight. My chauffeur is laid up with a bad flue at
Checkendon. Business is atrocious. A neighbour has started a
lawsuit against me about "lights". I ought to be, am, prefoundly
grateful for all their mercies.

Mark, unless he has been overwhelmed by the Seismic Wave in
the Pacific, should be home in a few weeks.

The world as a whole seems to be wondwefully contented &
well ordered.

Yours very truly

Frederick Scott Pangloss - Oliver.

Lt. Colonel Buchan.
