11A Portland Place, London, W.1.

12th February 1923

Dear John,

re Geese: You are exceedingly kind, but I had no
intention of sponging upon you. The best plan would be to
send the birds to Hawick, notifying my factor,

Mr John Steele,
Factor 's Cottage,
Camptown,
near Jedburgh.

when they will arrive so that he can meet them and fetch them
over in his car. I suppose if they are expected to breed
this season they ought to depart fairly soon. It would be
very kind if you would tell Mr Steele what little delicacies
they would like to eat in addition to the natural weeds and in
case of severe weather.

I am very sorry to hear of your family troubles.
We all seem to be in the same boat. I am delighted to hear
however that Mr John is going on satisfactorily. Katie and
Jock have gone off to Falmouth to recruit and are going on in
a few days to join Beatrlx at Sidmouth. Mark is due home about
the 1st of March. By the middle of that month I hope we shall
be settled in our new abode in the metropolis, 30 Cadogan Place.

If it were not for the fact that my chauffeur is
off duty for the next week or two owing to a severe attack of
flu/
