You will have such endless letters, I wonder whether to follow you across the Ocean, or whether wisely to await you, piled mountains high on your writing table when you return, that I almost

reluctantly add yet another line, but which please you must not think needs an answer.

I finished the book last night & I do congratulate you from the very bottom of my heart, on this marvellously true picture you have drawn of my Father. As I have just written to my

Mother, you have made his character stand out in such a wonderfully true light, bringing out all the different sides, with just that delightful touch of humour which more than any thing humanizes the whole, the simplicity of his early days, which he never

loses, & the strength of character which leads him step by step to the culmination of India.

I mustn't waste your time by more words.

You will have plenty written to you these days, but it was with tears I put down the

volume last night & I wanted you just to know how greatly one appreciated what seemed to me a masterpiece of writing, a wonderful insight into his nature, & such a marvellous summing up of a Life, one would wish in no way changed.
