My dear Mr Buchan._ I am so ashamed of myself for not having written to you ages ago to congratulate you on the wonderful reception that Father's Biography has had._ I have had marvellous letters even out here about it._ I am so very very glad, & we are all so grateful to you for having

shown him to the world as he was._ Mother says you were so kind & generous to her in your speech at Violet's dinner, - but you have been so good & patient with her all along - & I feel the result of this work has given her more pleasure than anything since Father's death.
I love the book myself - the Canadian part almost the best which you will think strange - it is quite extraordinary how you have

been able to portray his character.
Forgive scribble. I am busy preparing for the Yorks who arrive here in 4 days, it is no light undertaking having a house party of 70 people in the wilds of Africa, where everything has to be carried & I shall be heartily glad when it is over.
This country is going ahead in the most amazing way._ Every acre round here under cultivation, & it is curious to think

that only 4 yrs ago when Francis & I settled here - we had to find our whereabouts with a compass._ the crops not too good this year unfortunately, but it is a good life & I am happy to be back._ I hope you enjoyed America & were not too overwhelmed with hospitality.
With kind regards & many messages from us both.
Yrs very sincerely
Eileen Scott.
