My dear John

John MacNab chased me from Ardtornish here & he has pulled Alec through the depression following influenza. He enjoyed him as much as I did for we both read far into the night - a thing we

never do. I feel very proud that he is dedicated to me, & indeed the whole book breathes that peculiar atmosphere that we all love so much.

I am off there on [Thursday?] & very sad that you are not to be with us this year & I fear I shall just

miss you at Ardtornish as I cannot get there till about Sept 14.

Give my love to the family & with many grateful & proud thanks for the book
