Just a line to say that after Mary had read John Macnab to herself with great pleasure, Janet read it aloud to Humphry and me on our holiday in Normandy, and we liked it immensely, better than any of its recent companions which have cheered our summer holidays year after year. Once we came on Benjie we knew it would be all right and it was.

I sent your Col Woods on to the right quarter I think. What a good fellow he is. There is nothing to beat the best type of American. Would the world, including his own country, contained more of him.
