John, my friend, I have had difficulties of a political nature and could write you volumes on the subject - but perhaps better not. If you ever go to see Stamfordham, he will

probably tell you the story, as he knows the whole of it.

The situation of my Prime Minister was eloquently described by Jeremiah xxxviii, 21,

'Thy familiar friends have set thee on and have prevailed over thee: now that thy feet have sunk in the mire, they are turned away back.'

So far things have gone all right but there are rocks ahead when Parliament meets.
