Dear Buchan, I have just put down your new book, & I really cannot refrain from telling you that I found it a sheer joy. It made me long for many things - your pen, your skill - perhaps most of all to be on the hill.

(I write from London having just refused my chance of being there this week!) For the first time I have read of a real stalk by someone who can both write & stalk & so obviously loves both. _ What impertinence you will think all this is, but it is written in gratitude for a very real enjoyment.
