I hope I shall not be thought to be presuming if I venture to offer you both hearty thanks and warm congratulations on the successful completion of the Royal Scots Fusiliers Regimental History.

It is a work which I should have enjoyed and admired even

if I had had no connection with the Regiment; but as one who has had the honour of serving in it, I cannot but express my thankfulness that our story should have been written by a hand so able and so sympathetic.

All ranks in the Regiment must recognise their great indebtedness to you, but I should like to be among the first to place my sense of that indebtedness on record.
