My dear J.B.

This (not wholly uninterested) letter out of the deepest Blue - (not blue spirits you know for we are all well & happy here and can almost hear the CUCU.)

Now look here Lord Grey [image: "Lord Grey" is encircled in red with sunburst rays emanating from it] is to be painted for Baliol and, I hear, my name has been suggested as a chap who might "put him into oil" with a certain amount of distinction, so if you feel inclined you might say a word for me. It is a job I should enjoy. Hope you don't mind me pulling your string. I really have not the habit. I expect we may look in at Elsfield one day when our Florentine Ballet is launched. We shall be in Apple Tree all next week won't you come and lunch one day (any day)?

Our love to you and yours

Ever thine

W.N.
