My dear John,

Thanks for your letter of yesterday. I will send you the first £1000 as soon as I have collected it, early in January. I have written to Max, but I do not know how soon he will receive my letter. I have asked him to give instructions to one of his London offices that £1000 be paid to me at once. If this pleasing event does not occur I will supply the missing thousand myself until such time as he weighs in with the money.

All good wishes, and don't forget to come and see me again quickly.
