James T. Davidson , Esq.,
St. Olave ,
Kirkcaldy, Scotland.

My dear James,

It was very nice to hear from you again. I am glad you
appreciate our cheap edition of Scott's Journal. It is a pleasure
to find a really whole-hearted devotee of Sir Walter like you. I
will think over your suggestion about the miscellaneous prose.

The drawing which forms the wrapper of Volume II. is
from the portrait by Sir J. Watson Gordon. It was painted in 1820
and is now in the possession of Sir William Agnew.

Yours very sincerely,
John Buchan
