St. Stephen's House, London, S. W. 1.

9th February, 1932.

My own darling

This is a cold morning with a north wind. We had a majority of about 400 in the House last night. Maclean's speech was not very good, but quite reasonable, and Eddie Winterton was very amusing.

I fixed up with Thelma Cazalet for Thursday of next week, but I find that I am already engaged, so I must make another day . I shall try for Wednesday and let Alice know when it is settled. I suppose I will find her at Aunt Margie's.

I have a lot to do today one way and another. We have a Reuter meeting this afternoon; a meeting at the House at six to discuss the National Library of Scotland; I am dining with Roderick ^Jones to meet all his new staff and foreign correspondents; and then we have the Tariff division at eleven o'clock. I don't think I have any other news.

Bill Gray was very pleased with the success of his speech, and relieved at getting it over.

Sam Hoare will not be staying with us on Friday as he has an old promise to stay with Lindeman.

Much 1ove. John
