St. Stephen's House, London, S.W.1.

17th February, 1932.

My own darling,

I was very glad to get your letter this morning. I wish you would send it to St. Stephen's Club and not to St. Stephen's House, so that I can read it at breakfast .

I am looking forward to our dinner tonight. "Chopper" will probably turn up, as he seems to want a meal and is always good fun. Borodale has got to go to Harrogate to see his mother, who has had a serious operation, but will be back in time.

Yesterday I appeared before the Income Tax Commissioners. Mark Sturgis was in the Chair. They have reserved their decision. We had an interesting meeting of Ashridge Governors. One of the new Members last Sunday gave Baldwin a cheque for £3,000 to save the trees.

The debate last night was very interesting, and Archie Sinclair made a very good speech - the best of all of the recalcitrant Ministers. As you will see, the Government had an immense majority.

I am lunching today with Howard de Walden, and then have to take the Chair at five o'clock at the Royal Society of Literature. I seem to be very busy these days.

I think I must come back on Friday by the first train, so tell vebb to meet me at eleven o'clock.

Much love your John
