Dear Dr. Buchan,

I have just finished reading with the utmost pleasure your excellent "Sir Walter Scott".

I have noticed three little misprints, which can be seen to in the next edition. (p. 110: "Vanity of Human Wisdom" for "Wishes". p.223: no period at end of chapter. p.295: inverted commas begun on 2nd last line of previous page are left unfinished at line 6).

I think you refer to Scott 3 times as "English" e.g. an English novelist. At the cost of a periphrasis could you not have avoided applying the adjective to one who warned Croker so emphatically against un-Scotching us, and whom - I think rightly - you rank as the greatest of Scotsmen?

With best regards,

Yours sincerely,

Chas. W. Thomson
