I hoped to see you this morning: but I must not delay until next week to thank you very warmly for your gifts to the Library & me. I read the book at once with much interest: I see I was wrong in supposing that Elsfield was part of the 16th century Pope Settlement. It is most pleasing to have a

privately printed monograph. (I have only noticed one slip: T Warton was only a B.D., not a D.D. - the brother Joseph, Headmaster of Winchester was a D.D.)

We are just going to consider the financial reply to Council!
