St. Stephen's House London, S.W.1.

26th June, 1930.

Mrs. Firebrace, 9, York Terrace, Regents' Park, N. W.

Dearest Blanchie

I have been very anxious about you, and am very much relieved to hear that things are well over. You must have had a terrible time of worry this summer. It is a great thing to have taken the big fence. I am sure you will be soon quite strong again, for you have an extraordinarily good constitution. I need not tell you not to worry about the future, for I know how brave you are.

Apparently I am not to be allowed to see you this week, so I can only write; but I hope I may be allowed to come to you next week.

We have had a week of alarms and excursions. The party meeting on Tuesday was great fun, and Baldwin, for once in his life, hit out. good wishes. I must say I liked him enormously last night, and I have never liked him before.

It is sad for you lying in London just now, when the country is so good. I grudge every hour spent away from Elsfield; but I hope to get down tomorrow morning. I am plagued with having to give away prizes at schools at present in the weekends; but happily they are generally fairly near. Last Saturday Susie and I drove back from a little village in the West Cotswolds in the late evening, through miles of sainfoin and white clover. England just now is surely the most beautiful place in the world.

Will you let Caroline know when there is a chance of my seeing you next week?

Much love John
