My Dear John,

Your delightful message of congratulation warmed the cockles of my heart & was a pleasing variant on the innumerable letters from friendly solicitors - most of who had sent me my first brief!

I am already experiencing the agreeable relief of a change of gear. The pace, as you say, was getting a bit too hot. I shall of course keep on some of my παρεργα & shall have to complete my Finance & Industry job, but with no

briefs to get on my nerves I shall have a reasonable surplus of time for a few side-lines.

I do hope you approve of my describing myself as "of Aberfeldy". I was much tempted by your suggestion of "Blawearie", but succumbed to the appropriateness of the wee Hieland burgh where my decent forebears were born.

As for yourself, are you really all right again? Do take care of tam carum caput. I see you are taking to the boards as an actor; it will soon be Hollywood!
