St. Stephen's House, S. W. 1.

3rd July, 1930.

My own darling,

I hope to get a note from you today telling me how the old man is getting on with his exams. Alice seems to have had a great day at Henley with Billie, who ate himself stiff at John Tinne's expense! And they saw Eton win the heat after a great race.

I send you a letter from Algy Cecil. I am free on the 21st. If you like to go perhaps you had better answer direct. I would like to see him again.

I am in the midst of most tiresome complications over India, where things are going pretty badly. The Minister of Transport has granted me my Oxford amendments, which come on tomorrow, and which I greatly regretted I could not argue. My plan is much the best, of getting things done before going to the House.

I dined at the House last night, and afterwards talked to Stella Percy ^Lady Eustace Percy, Nancy, and Billi ^Ormsby Gore. He wants us to go and see him at Harlech in August, where he has a wonderful old house.

Today I am going down with Nancy to see Rachel Macmillan's Nursery Schools. Then we have a Harkness Trust meeting at six, and I am dining with Noel. I go off at dawn tomorrow to Sheffield , so I am afraid you won't get a letter from me; but I will see you at late luncheon on Saturday .

I do hope everything is well at Elsfield, and that the old man is in good spirits.

John
