My dear John,
Thank you so much for your letter about the books. It was most good of you to have taken so much trouble, and we are all more than grateful to you. Your suggestions will certainly be incorporated.
We are having a troubled time here , as you are also by all accounts in England , and I am afraid we are responsible for some of it.
I can't for the life of me understand why the report should have gained currency, as I fancy it has, that we are behaving with disrespect to Simon's Report. As far as I know, there is no ground for this, although I confess to having grave doubts as to whether his Central scheme is in fact likely to be found workable.
