St. Stephen's House, London, S. W. 1.

29th April, 1931.

My own darling

I was delighted to get your letter this morning, and Blanchie will be delighted to come out to lunch with you next Tuesday.

I have seen the St. Stephen's Club people, and owing to the kind intervention of Dick, I am going to have a bedroom continuously through May. I think it will be very comfortable and convenient.

I am afraid old John cannot go to Baffin Land. I must be firm on this point, for he has not attained his full strength. But I am glad they asked him. Has he any information about how he did in his exam?

In the Budget debate yesterday Neville Chamberlain was exceedingly good, and so was Oliver Stanley. Austin C. drove me to The Club, where I was in the Chair. It was Gordon of Magdalen's first dinner, and we had a very pleasant company, including George Trevelyan, Hugh Cecil, Crawford, Sumner and Dunedin.

My luncheon at the Savoy with Hodder Williams is off, because his mother is not expected to live the day. But I want to give my family luncheon all the same.

Tonight is the Press dinner, where I must hold forth. Tomorrow you will be getting the boys off to school. Give them all my love.

Much love. John
