My own darling,

There was no letter from you this morning, but I hope
you are quite well, and that your cold has now gone. I seem to
have got a considerable fresh dose myself.

I am terribly shocked, and so will Johnnie be, at Christopher
D'Aeth's death. You will see it in the papers today, and I
got a line from George Binney last night. It is the first calamity
we have had in our expeditions, and a very grievous one. He was
such a very good fellow. ^killed in the Arctic

There is not much news, but the City seems to be coming
round for an early Election. Ramsay is away sick and will not be
back until Monday; but the decision must be arrived at early next
week.
By the way, the dinner to Ramsay on the 12th may be postponed; but in any case the promoters will be delighted to have you
there.

I had a long day of work yesterday. I dined with Top
Wolmer and Gerald Loder. Today I am lunching with Anthony Muirhead
to meet some South Africans (you also were asked); and dining
with Victor Cazalet at the House.

Please note that I will come back by the 4.45 tomorrow
evening.

I have had a long letter from Gran, very distressed about
public affairs.
