My dear John,
I have just read your all too magnificent article about my book & I saw too a letter in this week's Spectator about the 2 Ruthvens.
I think I describe the elder Ruthven's death at Newcastle & I say somewhere else that the Lochleven Ruthven was the son of no 1.
but (if I remember rightly) I believe there is authority for saying both Ruthvens (father & son) were present when Rizzio was killed -
