My own darling
I hope the wind is abating, or I shall have a rough crossing to-night. Charlie Londonderry, who has just rung up, says he thinks it will be all right. Expect me back D.V. on Saturday afternoon at 3.7.
I dined quietly at the Club last night and read until bed-time - a rather clever novel called The Result of an Accident by Vickie Baum. There is a delightful review in verse of Alice ' s novel in this week 's "Punch" .
We gave your little clinic £100 this morning at the Pilgrim Trust. [Stanley] Baldwin was not there, being laid up with lumbago, poor fellow. Jim Irvine [S.T. - Principal] has had his physical laboratory burned down at St. Andrews, and is rather distressed .
I do not think there is much chance of my swearing in this afternoon, as they take members of the Government and Privy Councillors first, so I will have to put it off until Tuesday.
I am very well.
Much love,
John
