[Canada dinner
on July 1? 1932?]
St. Stephen's House,
London, S.W.1.
My own darling
I wired to you this morning that I have fixed Wednesday
the 19th for the dinner, which I should like to abide by. The
dining rooms are rather crowded just now, and David Margesson
could come on the 19th.
If I hear from you to-day to the contrary,
I will do my best to get the 18th.
I enclose letters from Jock Balfour and Geordie. I also
enclose Captain Evans's last letter. The 18th of August is very
late. You might let me know how you think I ought to reply. We
might begin August at Elsfield quietly, but you will see he says
there will be no riding. I should be inclined on the whole to
stay at home in August and take you for a trip in the car.
The Canada dinner last night was immense , and very hot.
I got out of my little speech, which was only a second to Hugh MacMillan,
owing to the delay of the Prince, who was half an hour
late. He spoke very well but with a curious under-bred accent.
Bennett, the Canadian Premier, was extraordinarily bad.
I enclose an advertisement of Fairfield at Selkirk, which
is much too large. They want to sell, but Walter thinks they
might let. I am afraid it will be difficult to get a house until
after September.
Much love.
John
