St. Stephen's House, London, S .W.1.
9th June, 1932.
My own darling,
No letter from you this morning, but I scarcely expected one. It is a lovely mild day.
I had a University amendment to the Finance Bill yesterday, and so had to sit in the House all the evening. Chopper made a very comic speech about beer, and Winston a very poor one. He lost the ear of the House, which half emptied.
Today I am lunching with Fred Whyte, and then taking a film deputation, including Alan Cameron, to see the Prime Minister at 3·45. I am dining with Waldorf Astor at his dinner to the ViceChancellor to discuss the proposed Oxford Society.
Send the little car to meet me tomorrow by the 4.45 train.
I enclose a letter from Hodder. I think his proposal a good one. We must get busy at once over these portraits.
Much love. from John
