From The Principal

13th June 1932.

Dear Mr Buchan,

Many thanks for your note and your handsome testimonial. It was very kind of you to go through the proof and we are most grateful to you for your suggestions. I shall be seeing Macmillan in a day or two.

I have been reading your Caesar during the weekend. I suppose this is the first time that the Roman situation has been represented in modern terms with gangsters and all complete. I enjoyed it very much and it is only a recollection of Samuel Johnson (Sir! before you praise a man you ought to consider what your praise is worth") that holds me back from saying what I think of the book.

Yours sincerely,

Edwin Deller.
